SangsLegal News Recent observations by the Supreme Court on reservations and sub classifications within the Scheduled Caste categories |
The supreme court recently held that the subdivision of Scheduled Castes is permissible in order to allocate separate quotas for those who are considered more socio-economically disadvantaged within the SC community. States have the authority to identify individuals within the SC category who are more disadvantaged and may subdivide them for a separate quota allocation within the overall quota.
The Supreme Court has further ruled that the 'Creamy Layer' should be excluded from the reservations for Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes.
