Effective Monday, July 1, three new criminal laws will be implemented across India, bringing about substantial changes to the country's criminal justice system and replacing colonial-era legislation. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) will supersede the old Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and Indian Evidence Act.
